The Christina Sherwood Academy of Dance was established in January 1990 by Christina Sherwood, owner and principal teacher. The school provides a safe and secure environment in which dancers are instilled with a sense of physical and mental confidence, encouraged to explore expressive and interpretive movement and provided with caring, customised tuition. Students develop good posture and body communication as well as social interaction skills.
Students can choose from classical ballet, contemporary dance, jazz, hip-hop and tap. Yearly examinations are available for students who wish to undertake formal studies in both classical ballet and tap. Ballet examinations are conducted by examiners of The Royal Academy of Dance (RAD) and tap examinations are conducted by Glenn Wood. The school also hosts weekly Zumba classes for those who wish to undertake dance fitness classes.
In 2013, the school entered a 6 member jazz troupe in the South Australian Stage Dancing Society (SASDS) Eisteddfod in the Under 12 Jazz or Musical Theatre Troupe Novice category and achieved first place.
Our students consistently achieve high results for their RAD and Glenn Wood examinations and in 2014, one of the schools grade 3 students, Kiera-Lynn Harris, will be joining The Australian Ballet School Interstate Training Programme (ITP) at Level 1 in 2014. Kiera-Lynn auditioned in July 2013, along with hundreds of other students across Australia and was one of only 100 students to be chosen for the 2014 programme.
The school is unique in its caring and nurturing environment. Students, once enrolled, enjoy a long relationship with the school and many have either gone on to dance careers or are teachers at the school. It sets goals in motion and enables students to complete their studies at school as well as accomplishing outstanding results in their dance studies.
We look forward to having you as part of our dancing community!
